Things I Missed in 2024

Every year I open every other “Albums of the Year” list in tabs on my phone, then every year I’m lucky if I read a handful, then nine months later I find myself closing fifteen tabs I’ve never read…

So, here’s either what I’ve found so far that I either a) totally forgot were this year, or b) have just found as result of this year’s charade:

Akoma: Jlin

Immediately regretted not including this in my albums of the year (warning: not much here if you need a melody). Its the Jlin we know with the added sophistication you’d expect from a Pulitzer shortlister. You’d struggle to identify the guests on the album, but that just adds to the charm.

Bounds: Craven Faults

Here’s one I missed. Maybe I’m just moving into the synth time of my life, maybe it’s my Yorkshire heritage; either way I’ll happily waste a few hours lost in this.

Tristwch y Fenywod: Tristwch y Fenywod

I only came across Tristwch on their NTS show. I need to get to know them and the album better, but am in love with the hypnotic melodies.
