Tracks of 2024

Here’s a round-up of my favourite new tracks in 2024. Which differ from the new tracks I’ve listened to the most, not sure what that says about me. Anyway, there’s a link to the playlist below.

  1. Earthling: Thee Oh Sees

An absolute belter. Thee Oh Sees unleashing drum pads and horns but still delivering a familiar punch.

  2. Lift You: Moin, Sophia Al-Maria

Hard not to start using phrases like “deconstructing genres” and an “icey piece of art that cuts deep into the psyche”. Luckily I couldn’t, so I won’t.

    The stand-out track on a stand-out album.

  3. I Don’t Know You: Mannequin Pussy

The last eyeroll from those of you who’ve read my albums of the year list. This really showcases their confidence and range, and it keeps you coming back.

  4. Empty and Silent: Mount Kimbie ft. King Krule

If ever there was a match made in heaven it’s Mount Kimbie and King Krule. I loved Blue Train Lines off Love What Survives and this is no different.

  5. Venom: CASISDEAD

Another EoTR find, it was this or Pat Earrings (both from from album Famous Last Words) to make it into the list. This is possibly a bit more route one, but has more attitude, so there.

  6. Model, Actress, Whatever: Suki Waterhouse

Have Mark’s Music to thank for this. An understated classic.

  7. Mistletoe: Wand

It had been a few years since I last listened to Wand – I think 1000 Days back in 2015. A real evolution in sound and energy, but great nonetheless.

  8. Neptunes: Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Joe Goddard

I’m a bit in and out with KAS’s stuff, not all of it’s for me, but this is.

  9. Dark Sword Angel: Danny Brown

    Hall of famer, back again.

  10. Radio: Freak Slug

Just a lovely, modern, indie track.
